What Is Adenosine?
Adenosine is a naturally occurring nucleoside composed of adenine and ribose, found in every cell of the human body where it plays crucial roles in energy transfer (as ATP) and cellular signaling. In skincare, adenosine is produced through yeast fermentation and has been approved by the Korean Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS) as a functional anti-wrinkle ingredient — a designation that requires clinical evidence of efficacy. Adenosine works by binding to adenosine receptors on skin cells, triggering a cascade that upregulates collagen type I and III production while downregulating the matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) that break down existing collagen. How to Use Adenosine
